Vienda: The Painted Ladies, The Dives and surrounding regions - Perhaps further regions
Families are a complicated business. Oh you can think of the machinations of the great golly families with their political marriages and reams of legal paperwork, but they’re not the only people with labyrinthine webs of obligations and of kin. Among the Seven Bells wicks of Vienda, family is just as important, just as strange, and yes, just as deadly.
For three years, Bailey Sneed stayed away from family, keeping his obligations across the river from his new life as the errand runner and general factotum of a golly official. Yet even service to that curious man brought him back to the Environs of the Ladies, brought him back into the cheerful spider web of his relations, back to the world of fences and thieves, of stockjobbers and of traders.
There are favors he owes and debts unpaid have been piling up for three years. It’s a pisser and it all needs sorting out. On top of his own problems, there are family and commercial matters. Problems with his elder sister’s rocky marriage, more debts left behind when his father died, and a number of other matters that have to be sorted out
Bailey Sneed - A prodigal son
Lizzie Craddock - His larcenous mother
Charlotte “Charlie” Sneed - his beloved younger sister, nearly as larcenous
Baltholover Sneed - his father. A grubby stockjobber. Dead to begin with
Lydia Dravis (ne Craddock) - His elder sister. In trouble
Bill Dravis - The trouble she is in. Her husband
Hal Wilkes - A menacing fence. More frightened than he seems
Full chorus of meddlesome relatives, thieves, street vendors, flower girls, policemen, and ne'er-do-wells
Happy to help set the scene of the Painted Ladies and the family problems, but I’d love it to spiral out of control in crazy ways.
Also, if anyone wants to take up the role of a relative, or ‘discover’ your character already is one, that could be a real blast.
